Daniel Hartmann.

Software architect and developer. Twenty-five years of writing systems and, more often now, deciding how they should be shaped before anyone writes them.

I started in 2001 building an ERP system — database schema, device interfaces, printed reports, the lot — and have been somewhere in the stack ever since. Ember and jQuery gave way to Angular, then Vue and React; C# and Java gave way to TypeScript, Kotlin, Go and Rust. The languages turned over. The interesting part never did: deciding where a boundary goes, and making it hold.

For most of the last decade that has meant being the architect — at n-fuse across client projects, as CTO at Hoovi building a SaaS platform from nothing, and at LMZ Baden-Württemberg on MUSES, a DigitalPakt platform three German states run their school IT through. Since 2021 it has also meant running my own company, where the architecture decisions and the consequences both land on the same desk.

That company is DK2 Ventures UG; octabits is the name it goes by in public. Its product is Reynt, a multi-tenant booking platform I own end to end — which is only possible because AI coding agents are now a real part of how I work. Not autocomplete: orchestration, from architecture discussion through code generation to review. Roughly 480,000 lines and 1,400 tests in eleven months, with one developer, is what that actually buys.

The reusable parts get pulled out and published — octaflow, the platform packages, and a cert-manager webhook I forked because the original was unmaintained and I needed wildcard certificates that worked. Maintaining them in the open is the cheapest way to keep them honest.

I take on selected engagements alongside that: architecture reviews, greenfield system design, and hands-on delivery when a team needs someone who will actually write the code. Remote, or in the Stuttgart area.
